The state’s governor, Steve Sisolak, signed an emergency directive establishing a mask mandate “according with the guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and any later advise released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

The rule comes just a few days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks indoors “in areas with considerable and high transmission.” In Nevada, 12 of the state’s 17 counties are now classed as having either a “substantial” or a “high” risk of transmission, including Clark County, which is home to Las Vegas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There has been a significant increase in coronavirus infections reported in the country in recent weeks, the majority of which have been linked to the extremely contagious delta form. Across the country, 49.94 percent of counties are regarded to be at “high” risk of transmission, with another 16.68 percent deemed to be at “considerable” risk of transmission.
