Nintendo confirms 160,000 Nintendo Accounts accessed in hacking

Nintendo will disable the feature for the user to log into a Nintendo Account through the Nintendo Network –NNID, after the incident of 160,000 accounts being affected due to the attempt of hacking. Nintendo said that the login IDs and the passwords have been illegally obtained by different means other than their services and have been used since early April to have access to the accounts of the users.

During this breach, the nicknames, country, date of birth, and the email addresses of the users might have been accessed. Some of the accounts also experienced fraudulent purchases. Nintendo now recommends its users to enable the two-factor authentication facility. This is what you should use for all your online accounts, added Nintendo.

All the affected accounts are being asked to reset their passwords, and Nintendo will now disable the feature of allowing the user to log in to their primary Nintendo Account through any NNID. The older NNIDs were being used for Wii U and 3DS devices.

The affected users of this hacking scam will be notified through emails, and the company is sending out warning signs –that if you have used the same password for the Nintendo account and an NNID, then your registered credit card/ PayPal may be used illegally. The affected users are advised to contact the company immediately so that investigations can be carried out about the cancel purchases and history.
