Matteson village trustees’ board approved the plan of Choctaw Nation unanimously of developing one casino during their board meeting on Monday night.

The village trustees approved the plan in one 6-0 vote. They said that some amount from the casino’s proceeds will be directed towards the development of a trauma unit in southern suburbs.

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma would operate the proposed casino, which will sport 2,000 different gaming positions, one food hall, one high-end restaurant, one 200-room hotel as well as one 36,000sq ft convention space.

Sheila Chalmers-Currin, the Mayor of Matteson, believes that this project would prove to be an asset to not just Matteson but also the whole Southland Region. After interviewing several casino operators, a decision to choose Choctaw Nation’s team was taken as it offered the best merger of vision, community engagement, experience and one financially feasible idea, noted Chalmers-Currin.

The chief executive of the tribe, Janie Dillard said that they are honored to have received the opportunity to match the team’s experience along with the Matteson community and to develop jobs across the southern suburbs.

The village trustees further said that the casino would collaborate with minority enterprises. Besides, the casino also would incorporate one historical exhibit featuring the multi-cultural past of the region.
